If you are looking for an interesting challenge, Expedition Agaguk suggests visiting Mingan Archipelago in a fantastic but comfortable 10-day expedition for 4 people, leaving from Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan and paddling all the way to Bay-Johan-Beetz. Throughout this 10-day outing, you will witness magnificent sites, many of which are most favorable for whale observation.
Here is an outline of the itinerary.
Meeting of all participants the day before departure at the headquarters of Expedition Agaguk, 1062 Boreale in Havre Saint-Pierre, to get acquainted and to settle the last details of the expedition.
Day 1 : departure time in the morning, Agaguk's small van takes us with our kayaks from Havre Saint-Pierre to the beach of Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan. Our 10-day luggage all packed up inside the kayaks, we begin our journey towards Île aux Perroquets (one of the two sites in Mingan Archipelago where Atlantic Puffins can be observed). We end this first day on Île Nue de Mingan where we set camp for the night.
Day 2: a good crossing awaits us to reach Grande Île and its monolith "Le Château". Next, we follow the west coast of the island, going northwards to set camp at Bay Petit-Henri.
Day 3: from Bay Petit-Henri, we easily reach our next camping sites on Île Quarry which we can visit either hiking or kayaking, depending on weather conditions, your capacities or your mood.
Day 4: we leave for Île Niapiska for a visit of Anse des Bonnes Femmes and its famous monoliths before returning to our camp site on Île Quarry.
Day 5: we settle down on Île du Havre after a stop on Île du Fantôme.
Day 6: a very busy day awaits us. First we land on the islands Marteau for a visit. After, we go across Walrus Channel towards Grande Pointe. From there, we reach the headland of Gros Violon on the coast facing Île Saint-Charles where we set up camp for the night.
Day 7: we head for Île à Calculots des Betchouanes to observe Razorbills, Common Murres and Atlantic Puffins. Next, we leave for our campsite on Île à la Chasse.
Day 8: Île Sainte-Geneviève is on our itinerary just to please our eyes before we reach Pointe Rouge. After lunch, we head for the east headland of Bay Victor at the end of which we can see the mouth of Rivière du Milieu where we will set camp for the night.
Day 9: we follow the coast eastwards in an entanglement of granite islands up to the mouth of Rivière Corneille where we will camp for the last night of our expedition.
Day 10: since just a short distance is separating us from Bay-Johan-Beetz, we paddle quietly along this magnificent coast bordering the Canadian Shield formed of one of the oldest granites in the world. Finally, from the village of Bay-Johan-Beetz, Agaguk's van will bring us back to Havre Saint-Pierre.
Please note that weather conditions can sometimes compel us to modify this itinerary but we will always manage to see the most possible of Mingan Archipelago.
